(NEWSER) – A bunch of Tennessee teenagers were busily TPing their principal’s house when a 15-year-old boy among them got shot—and it wasn’t even the principal who pulled the trigger. Police say a neighbor, 65-year-old Dale Bryant Farris, fired at least two shots from his 20-gauge shotgun during the Oct. 20 incident. The teen is recovering, and Farris is facing charges of aggravated assault and reckless endangerment, the Chattanooga Times Free Press reports. He’s been released on a $125,000 bond. “The problem is they were not on his [Farris’] property and they were not doing anything to his property,” says a sheriff’s office spokesman.

“It was just a random thing,” he adds, and the teens and Farris did not appear to know one another. Farris came outside after his wife told him she saw the teens running across a nearby field, the Manchester Times reports. The teen was hit with pellets in his foot, knee, palm, thigh, and torso. “He got peppered pretty good,” the spokesman says. Police who responded found Farris sitting on his porch and the teen in the back of a truck; he insisted he wasn’t bleeding and would have his parents deal with his wounds. The principal did not press charges against the teens.
