One more comment on “lynching President Obama”. *Please see previous post.
I went to a Phillies game tonight to see them honor Jimmy Rollins. There was a video of politicians, actors and athletes giving praise to Jimmy. The first person that appeared was our Governor, who is white and who is not loved by the good people of Philadelphia. The fans booed so loud at our fine Governor that I could not hear a word that he said.
There is a lesson that I learned when I began working in the city 30+ years ago. I was told “It is never about race with white people. It is always about race with black people.” I learned quickly that this was often true.
No one questioned whether the 30,000 people tonight hate our governor because he is white. They hate him because he cut education spending to balance the budget. Let’s pretend he was black. If those same 30,000 people booed him, it would be attributed to race.
I know there are racial haters in this country. I don’t agree with them one bit. But to generalize and throw every conservative into the “hate” camp because we disapprove is generalizing ALL conservatives in the same way that we cannot generalize that ALL black people act a certain way.
